Today, we attended a Year 3 and 4 Football tournament at James Hornsby. Despite the cold, we played with resilience and determination throughout and displayed some brilliant football. We played 5 matches altogether, with our biggest win being 1-0 against Rydene. A special mention to our 'Players of the Match' Ore, for playing amazingly on pitch and scoring a penalty and Kian, for making some vital saves as goalkeeper. Well done to everyone! Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics - Wednesday 11th December 2024 - Basildon Sporting Village
Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Sportshall Athletics competition at Basildon Sporting Village. It was all about teamwork today as the children competed in several different activities, including obstacle relays, javelin throws and long distance running, to win points for their team. In total, Team Phoenix received 362 points just narrowly missing out on 4th place overall by 2 points! A huge well done to everyone, what a great result. A special mention and congratulations to the girls’ relay team – Esther, Kendall, Ava and Raff - who ran their race in 58 seconds, which was the quickest in the competition! Also, to Eziaku who ran brilliantly in her races despite only being in Year 4. Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 New Age Kuling Tournament - Tuesday 3rd December 2024 - James Hornsby School
Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 New Age Kurling tournament at James Hornsby. Again, just like Boccia, we have had lots of children ask what New Age Kurling is! It is simply an accessible version of Ice Curling (but without the ice) and is played sitting down. Team Phoenix played 5 matches altogether, winning 2 matches against Laindon Park, 4-1 and Rydene, 3-1. We showed sportsmanship throughout, making new friends along the way, and we showed strong resilience even after a loss. Most importantly, the team had great fun! They even made up their own victory dance. Well done to everyone, some brilliant Kurling played. Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby Tournament - Wednesday 27th November 2024 - James Hornsby School
Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Tag Rugby tournament at James Hornsby. We played 5 matches altogether, with our biggest win being 4-0 against Whitmore. Despite the cold weather, every single member of the team played brilliantly and we scored some amazing tries against tough competition. A huge well done to everyone and a special mention to our ‘Player of the Tournament’ Edward, who worked extremely hard and gave his all in every match he played. Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 Boccia Tournament - Thursday 21st November 2024 - James Hornsby School
Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Boccia tournament at James Hornsby. We have had lots of children (and adults) ask what Boccia is and they have been keen to learn more about how it is played. Boccia is simply a form of bowls where teams are sat, rather than standing up. We have been practising how to play during our lunchtime club, so we have been well prepared leading up to this tournament. We began with our group stage matches, winning 3 of out 5 games – with our biggest win being 8-0 against Greensted! As a result, we progressed onto the semi-final and just by one point, we beat Willows 2-1 for a place in the grand final. We knew going into the final we were guaranteed a medal so we played the last match with everything we had left. Phoenix just lost out (by would you believe it, ½ cm) on a gold medal, but the team were overjoyed with 2nd place and proudly collected their SILVER medals at the end. We had happy tears and happy smiles all round! Well done to Charley-George, Macie and Maisie who played incredibly throughout, you should all be very proud of yourselves – Miss Larking certainly is. Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 Basketball Tournament - Wednesday 13th November 2024 - James Hornsby School
Today, we attended a Year 5 and 6 Basketball tournament at James Hornsby. We played 9 matches altogether, winning an incredible total of 5 matches against Lee Chapel 2, Laindon Park, Willows 1, Willows 2 and Lincewood. As a result, we narrowly missed out on a bronze medal and came joint 4th place with 32 points. We played outstanding basketball throughout and our winning streak kept our momentum going right through to the end. A special mention to Kadian who played amazingly well and scored some vital baskets to help his team win those important matches. Even teachers from other schools noticed how well everyone played so a huge well done to the whole team! Go Team Phoenix!
Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby Tournament - 5th November 2024 - James Hornsby School
Today, we attended a Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby Tournament at James Hornsby. We have had lots of experience playing Tag Rugby, but this was the first time the children played together as a team. We played 5 games, winning 3 of our games against Lee Chapel, Willows and Chapel Hill, drawing against Whitmore and only losing 1 game to Janet Duke - which was a very very close match. After incredible performances and fantastic teamwork on the pitch, Team Phoenix came home with a SILVER medal, earning 2nd place with 18 points overall. Miss Larking even let out a cheer (and maybe a tear or two) as the team collected their medals. We couldn't be more proud! A special mention to Eziaku who captained the team today and for using her super-sonic speed to score some vital tries for the team. Also, a big thank you to Coach William who has been working with us - we couldn't have done it without you. Well done and a huge congratulations to everyone! Go Team Phoenix!
Year 3 and 4 Dodgeball Tournament - Wednesday 23rd October 2024 - Basildon Sporting Village
Today, we attended a Year 3 and 4 Dodgeball Tournament at Basildon Sporting Village. We have been learning how to play Dodgeball during our PE lessons, so we have had lots of practise leading up to this event. We played 6 matches altogether, winning against Laindon Park and Chapel Hill, and drawing against Willows right in the last few seconds! We played amazingly well as a team, so a huge well done to everyone - some brilliant Dodgeball on show. Go Team Phoenix!
Year 5 and 6 Girls Football Tournament - Wednesday 9th October 2024 - The James Hornsby School
On Wednesday, the Girls Football team attended their first tournament at James Hornsby. It was an amazing turnout with 15 schools in attendance! We played seven games in our pool, drawing one and winning two 1-0. Lola scored a well-placed penalty and Mya scored a brilliant goal from the edge of the box. A special mention to our 'Player of the Tournament', Lola, for being a great captain and a positive, strong leader and Violet, for her immense effort on the field! Well done to everyone, you all played incredibly well as a team and you should be very proud of yourselves. We will be arranging friendly matches with local schools very soon to keep up the momentum. Go Team Phoenix!
Panathlon Bowling Tournament - Tuesday 1st October 2024 - Hollywood Bowl
On Tuesday, Team Phoenix attended the annual Panathlon Bowling event at Hollywood Bowl and what a turnout! We had so much fun! 13 schools from across Essex competed for team points to win a special prize. Our KS1 team scored an amazing 549 points, with a team average of 91.5 and our KS2 team scored an incredible 562 points, with a team average of 93. Team Phoenix just missed out on the top 3, but for their efforts, everyone received a medal and certificate to take home with them to celebrate their achievements! A huge well done to everyone, you should be very proud of yourselves.

Also, on Wednesday, we attended our first competitive tournament at James Hornsby. Team Phoenix entered two teams, with both teams playing 7 matches in different pools. Both teams played incredibly well on the pitch, winning 2 games and scoring some amazing goals. Well done to everyone involved and a special mention to Jude and Arjun who captained their first game as a new squad! Go Team Phoenix!
